CHILE - VALPARAISO Pelagics to the Humboldt CurrentAconcagua Birding Trips Our Pelagic Birding Trips are some of the most thrilling and rewarding experiences for the Birder looking for a wide variety of Pelagic Seabirds. Departing from Higuerillas Yacht Club near Valparaiso, we head offshore to meet the cold waters of the Humboldt Current, one of the most productive marine ecosystems on Earth, supporting an incredibly huge biomass and home to more than forty species of Seabirds, many of which are endemic to this large, cool stream that runs northwards along the West coast of South America from Western Patagonia to Southern Peru in the South Pacific Ocean. Some of the Pelagic Trip highlights are the Royal, Black-browed, Salvin´s (Shy) & Buller´s Albatrosses, Southern & Northern Giant Petrels, Southern Fulmar, Cape Petrel, White-chinned Petrel, Pink-footed & Sooty Shearwaters, Wilsons Storm Petrel, Peruvian Diving Petrel, Humboldt Penguin, Chilean Skua, Guanay Shag, Peruvian Booby, Peruvian Pelican and Inca Tern, among the most typical Humboldt Current seabirds.
PERUPelagics from Lima, Peru Pelagics can be run any time of year. Different seasons give different birds. We found July particularly good with over 100 albatrosses seen of least five species. Other great birds we have seen include Sooty-, Buller´s- and Pink-footed Shearwaters, White-chinned- and Cape Petrel, Markham´s, Hornby´s, White-vented, Band-rumped, Wilson´s and Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrels, Swallow-tailed and Sabine´s Gulls, Waved, Gray-headed, Black-browed and Salvin´s Albatrosses, Peruvian Diving-Petrel, Chilean and South Polar Skuas. Inshore birds we see includes Humboldt Penguin, Inca Tern, Guanay and Red-legged Cormorants, Peruvian Diving-petrel, Blackish Oystercatcher and Peruvian Seaside Cinclodes. |
