Belizean adventure travel remains one of the world's great experiences, with an incredibly rich and diverse eco system, hundreds of Maya archaeological sites including impressive temples that continue to stand the test of time, rainforests full of exotic animals and a reef dotted with hundreds of small islands teeming with marine life.

For over 30 years Chaa Creek has been providing a comfortable base for exciting inland adventures for thousands of visitors, from explorers, scientists, filmmakers, research groups, students and people of all ages looking for stimulation in Belize's vibrant rainforest – the heartland of the Maya.

Chaa Creek is a private 365 acre nature reserve set along the banks of the Macal River in the foothills of the Maya Mountains and is home to a number of exotic jungle dwellers including peccaries, jaguar, monkeys and many others as well as over 300 species of tropical and migratory birds. Guests are literally surrounded by one of the most pristine ecosystems in the world.

Chaa Creek has 23 palm thatched cottage rooms and guests can choose a Complete Garden Suite, an Orchard and Spa Villa, Macal Cottage or Tree Top Suite, all equipped with a Jacuzzi for extra comfort.

Blue-crowned Motmot Black-throated Trogon

The 365 acre reserve features miles of well maintained trails for guided horseback riding, mountain biking and nature walks. You may also canoe down the lovely Macal River, go birding, discover the rainforest and nearby Maya archaeological sites on your own, or just kick back in a hammock with a good book.

With 308 species of resident and migratory birds, the Chaa Creek Nature Reserve offers some of the best bird watching in Belize. Chaa Creek professional naturalists will assist you in finding many of the tropical avian species that abound in western Belize. The Keel-billed Toucan, Blue-crowned Mot-Mot, Violaceous Trogan, Grey-necked Wood-Rail, Collared Forest Falcon, and a host of parrot species are just a few of the exotic birds awaiting you. Laguna Aguacate, a freshwater lagoon in the Spanish Lookout area, is home to a wide variety of water birds. The surrounding farmlands provide excellent habitat for several species of raptors. Other great locations include the Blue Hole National Park, Mt. Pine Ridge and Chiquibul Forest Reserves, Black Rock Canyon, and the Caracol Archaelogy Reserve.

DUPLOOYS JUNGLE LODGE, CAYO DISTRICT OF BELIZE

Visit Crystal Paradise

When the duPlooy family arrived some 20 years ago to start turning a cattle ranch and farm into the most jungly jungle lodge in the area, plus the 45-acre Belize Botanic Garden, they didn't realize what a truly positive environmental impact this could make.

Besides becoming a haven for birds and animals, duPlooy's has become a haven for people seeking time away from the stress of a busy life. At duPlooy's you will want to spend a lot of time wandering about the property and Belize Botanic Gardens, watching birds and stars, swimming in or floating down the Macal River, or just lying in your hammock.

The Cayo District of Belize is well known for its abundant bird life, and duPlooy's Jungle Lodge could not be better placed, with its rich mixture of habitats and equally varied avifauna.

Set in secondary growth rainforest on the edge of the Macal River, the lodge is built on the edge of a fairly steep wooded incline, and its unique canopy walk takes you straight into the canopy and amongst birds not normally encountered at ground level. Duplooys largest endeavor is supporting Belize Botanic Gardens, 45 acres of native and exotic plants, adjacent to the property.
