Latest : American robin, Baltimore oriole. Likely to be the final tally of what was, for me, a successful year bird-wise. I managed to get into the field at least locally on 47 days during the year, a significant improvement on 2002. High points of the year included a weekend enjoying the Scottish specialities in late May, a productive October weekend in Norfolk and, of course, the Black Lark on Anglesey in June. Despite all that I somehow failed to see Black redstart, Lesser spotted woodpecker, Long-eared owl and Glaucous gull during the year. |

Just had great trip to Norfolk! Got loads of lifers including Sammy the stilt, great northern diver, ruff!, grey partridge, brent geese, marsh harrier, snow bunting, cranes, too much to remember without my notebook at the moment! Got waxwing and lapland bunting in Aber just before then. Also went back home via Oxford and got the Oriole after giving up all hope, then next day back in Cornwall thoroughly enjoyed a very well behaved Yank Robin as she jumped straight into my field of view shortly after my arrival! Not bad for my first full year of birding! |

Well I recently ticked off goshawk and grey plover for my lifelist, plus wheatear, linnet and marsh tit for this year but I couldn't be bothered to get a black-tailed godwit that was 10mins walk away, but did get green-winged teal last month. However, I recently unsuccessfully tried to string my enigma, the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, but I was found out!! It was discovered by my so-called 'friends' to be a nuthatch! Oh well... D'oh! |
