Dusky Thrush, Yukon © Cameron D. Eckert

"The Yukon's first DUSKY THRUSH present in Whitehorse on November 21-28, 2000 has not been seen since. It seems that it may have moved on or perished.

During its 7 day stay in Whitehorse the Dusky Thrush attracted at least 60 birdwatchers and perhaps as many as 100 people including the curious general public. Birders came in from Haines Junction, Carcross, and Teslin to view this astonishing rarity. In relative terms, the level of enthusiastic response shown by Yukon birdwatchers is unprecedented in North America. Adjusting for population, that would be the equivalent of at least 9000 Toronto-area birdwatchers turning out for a rarity.

The Yukon Bird Club would like to graciously acknowledge the Christ Church Cathedral (Hellaby Hall) who "hosted" the Dusky Thrush during its stay and welcomed eager birders." Cameron Eckert
