Martí Rodriguez lives in Vic in the northwest of Spain. The following beautiful sketchbook is from the Camargue in September 2002. What is, perhaps, most remarkable is that Martí is only 14 years old!

I began painting seriously, at least, two years ago, but when I didn't begin doing sketchbooks until September 2000. When I go bird watching, I always do sketches, especially about birds, but, for example, I also draw mammals and flowers, too. I do my elaborate paintings at home, using my sketches, photographs and, sometimes, other paintings as reference.

I always go bird watching with older friends, and when we stay for some minutes in one place, I take out my sketchbook and begin drawing. I did these sketches during a trip to La Camargue, France, where I went for a weekend in September 2002.

Greater Flamingos are very common in La Camargue. We saw them everywhere. While we stayed identifying waders, I drew some Greater Flamingos. I sketched one with the ring DHPT on the right leg and a metallic one on the left leg.
We saw a Great White Egret in the Veccarés lake. We stopped the car and I began drawing this wonderful egret, while near us were flying an Osprey, some Little and Common Terns, and in the water were some Flamingos, Great Crested, Little and Black-necked Grebes…
In the afternoon, we saw a Short-toed Lark, and near where we saw it, we found a couple of Oystercatchers in a little pond with some Gulls. They were my first Oystercatchers and, of course, I sketched them.
