OKOVANGO DELTA, KWANDO SAFARI CAMPS

Kwando Safaris

No trip to Botswana is complete without a visit to the Delta, the shimmering and unique watery jewel in the middle of the Kalahari desert.

Kwando Safaris operates six camps, with never more than 16 visitors in camp at one time. Kwara is located in the remote northern part of the stunning Okavango Delta. The camp fronts onto a huge floodplain, adjacent to the permanent water of the Delta and is backed by extensive bush. It is a magnificent wilderness area in excess of 1,700 square kilometres, bordering the Moremi Reserve. Kwara encompasses a wide diversity of habitats, ranging from the clear Delta waters with reed-lined lagoons and channels, to open grasslands, mopane woodlands and palm-fringed islands.

The eight luxury safari-style tents are built on raised decks, within a grove of huge and ancient African Ebony trees. Resident hippos will generally serenade you year round from the water on the floodplain in front of the camp. Each tent has its own viewing deck, private en-suite facilities including hot and cold running showers, flush toilets and modern amenities.

The forested island on which the camp sits is typical of those encountered throughout the vast 1.6 million hectares of the Okavango Delta. Along with the bird watching, Kwando safaris offer fishing, walks with a guide on one of the many palm-fringed islands and also spectacular day and night drives.

The Kwara area is home to a variety of wild animals including, lechwe, sitatunga, reedbuck, bushbuck, hippo, crocodiles, elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and tsessebe. Lion, hyaena, wild dog, leopard and cheetah are abundant in this part of the Delta and regularly seen.

CHOBE RIVER, ICHOBEZI SAFARI BOAT

Ichobezi

For many first time visitors to this region, the prolific birdlife can be overwhelming. With over 400 wetland and woodland species recorded in the area, it is best described as a birders paradise. Both the Ichobezi Moli/Mukwae and the Ichobezi Ichingo River Lodge offer complementary experiences for seasoned birders as they allow you to move from one habitat to another with experienced guides who are able to assist you in finding and identifying the various species. Between March and September, the summer migrants can be seen in large numbers proving that this region is truly one of the hot spots of Africa.

Ichingo Chobe River Lodge, on the Chobe River at the confluence with the Zambezi River is a perfect place to stay. But in order to enjoy the beauty of the whole area even further, birders can explore the rivers, channels and floodplains that make up this very special corner of Africa aboard two safariboats.

18 metres long, the Ichobezi Moli offers space, comfort and first-class service. Launched in July 2007, the Ichobezi Mukwae offers her own singular personality to the waters of the Chobe River.
