| KAFUE NATIONAL PARK, NANZHILA PLAINS SAFARI CAMP

Covering a vast area of approximately 22,500 square kilometres, the Kafue National Park is the largest in Zambia and one of the largest protected areas in the World. Gazetted in the 1950's during colonial rule, it is also the oldest park in Zambia. Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is only one of a small handful of camps in the whole park, ensuring that our visitors experience the beauty of the area in its unspoiled splendor.
The Park is a birder's paradise with close to 500 bird species being recorded, notably the endemic Black-Cheeked Lovebird, the Wattled Crane, Saddle-billed Stork, Goliath Heron, Purple-Crested Lourie, Pel's Fishing Owl and Chaplins Barbet.
At Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp, you will never see another vehicle on a game drive because your nearest neighbours are three hours away. This offers birdwatchers a unique African experience off the beaten path.
Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is a new development located in the remote and seldom visited southern sector of Kafue National Park. The area is best known for its lush woodlands of Miombo, Zambezi Teak and Mopane, the beautiful plains and the stream that runs through it, after which the lodge is named. Nanzhila Plains offers excellent opportunities to see the healthy populations of a number of antelope species including Roan and Sable, Reedbuck, Defassa Waterbuck, Oribi, Hartebeest and Eland as well as all the major carnivores, with a particularly strong population of Wild Dog and Cheetah.
Currently the lodge is able to accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 well appointed thatched cottages. A camp site facility is also available for adventurous souls who would prefer to rough-it.

NORTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK, MWALESHI CAMP
 |
 |
Mwaleshi Camp offers a magical walking experience in the heart of North Luangwa National Park, renowned for its lion, buffalo and endemic Cookson's Wildebeest. It's a delightfully simple camp with just four reed and grass chalets.
The Luangwa Valley is an extension of the Great East African rift valley, the main arm of which runs east of Zambia, containing Lake Malawi. The ecology of the Luangwa Valley is extraordinary: dramatic seasonal variations, a dynamic river system, fertile soils, lush vegetation, prolific wildlife, a perpetual contest between the elements, hunter and prey.
The valley experiences two distinct seasons, the Dry Season from May to November, and the Green or Emerald Season from December to April. The coldest time of year is June and July when the daytime temperatures are pleasant but early morning and night excursions can be cold in the open vehicles. By October temperatures reach 37 degrees centigrade but the game viewing "hots" up too as the outlying water dries, forcing the game to the riverine area.
The Luangwa is home to most of the big game - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and hippo are abundant. It is notable for two endemic species: Thornicroft's Giraffe and Cookson's Wildebeest. There are few, if any, rivers in Africa that contain such a high concentration of hippos and crocodiles. Night drives reveal many fascinating mammals including civet, genet, mongooses, bushbaby, serval, porcupine and aardvark.
Over 400 hundred species of birds have been recorded in the Luangwa. Close to Tafika the large flocks of Crowned Cranes and the Yellow-billed Stork breeding colony are incredible sights. Pel's Fishing Owls and Bat Hawks are regularly seen. At Mwaleshi bird specials include White-winged Babbling Starlings and Fulleborn's Longclaw.

| SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK, KAFUNTA RIVER LODGE

Situated in the riverside forest on the banks of the Lunagwa River, Kafunta River Lodge offers accommodation of the highest standard in eight luxury chalets built on raised wooden platforms. Daily game drives and night drives reveal the wildlife.
Kafunta River Lodge is a classic safari lodge, in an ideal location to discover the game rich Mfuwe area. Kafunta Safaris also operate the seasonal Island Bush Camp. This is a small, personalised camp, located in a remote area in the very South of the National Park and a great place to explore the unspoilt wilderness on foot. Our qualified and experienced local guides accompany you throughout the safari.
The South Luangwa is one of Africa's best hidden secrets. With over 50 different animal species, some of them unique to the Luangwa Valley like the Thornicroft Giraffe and the Cookson Wildebeest, and great opportunities to view leopards and lions as well as the highest density of hippos and crocodiles in the river; this is one safari destination not to be missed.
But the Luangwa Valley offers much more then that - it is a birdwatchers paradise with over 450 species of birds. This includes 39 species of birds of prey and 47 migrant species, so whatever the season, the South Luangwa National Park is an excellent bird watching destination. The most interesting time for bird watching is from November to May when the birds are in breeding plumage and the migrant birds visit the Luangwa Valley.
