Sightings: Some interesting sightings during my trip to Cape Verde from 04/12/07 to 24/12/07:
Red-throated Pipit: 1 first-winter at Mindelo sewage ponds/Sao Vicente on 13/12. May be the first record for the area according to Avibase list.
White-breasted Cormorant: 1 immature at Palmeira/Sal on 04/12.
Western Reef Heron: 1 adult dark phase at Praia/Santiago on 20/12.
Ring-necked Duck: 2 females (returning birds) at Mindelo sewage ponds/Sao Vicente on 10/12 and 13/12.
Knot: 1 at Bahia das Gatas/Sao Vicente on 06/12.
Northern Wheater: 1 at Ponta do Sol/Santo Antao on 09/12
Willow Warbler: 1 at Burracona/Sal on 04/12
Spoonbill: 6 at Barragem do Poilao/Santiago on 14/12
Bourne's Heron: 10 juveniles seen on the usual tree at Banana de Ribeira Montanha.
Hoopoe Lark: 2 north of Palmeira/Sal on 04/12, confirming the presence of this species on Sal after the first sighting near Santa Maria.
The originality of our trip was the long time spent on boats when travelling between the islands (Sal-Sao Vicente-Santo Antao-Sao Vicente-Sao Nicolau-Santiago and Fogo-Santiago). We totalled in 15 hours:
26 Fea's Petrels, 1 Cape Verde Shearwater, 3 Great Shearwaters, 6 probable Manx Shearwaters, 38 Cape Verde Little Shearwaters, 4 Leach's Storm-petrels, 5 Madeiran Storm-Petrels, 13 storm-petrels sp., 27 Brown Boobies, 7 Red-billed Tropicbirds, 1 Great Skua, 21 Pilot Whales, 7 Common Dolphins, 2 Bottle-nosed Dolphins, 2 Spotted Dolphins, 2 dolphins sp. and 1 "big whale" blow.
