In the west of the country, the river Danube forms the border with Hungary. Lined by marshes and flooded woodland, the Danube supports a wide array of species including Night Heron, Great White Egret and in winter geese and White-tailed Eagle. Smaller species in summer include River and Savi's Warbler and Penduline Tit whilst at the other extreme, west of Kamarno is a reserve supporting significant numbers of Great Bustard. In the east of the country, Vihorlat is a range of hills supporting large numbers of raptors including Saker, Lesser Spotted and Imperial Eagle, whilst the woodlands hold Ural Owl, White-backed and Syrian Woodpecker, Collared and Red-breasted Flycatcher. |
