This was the most common euphonia in the area by far. It is common around
edges and in parks and gardens. Its short tail and thick, stubby bill aid
in identification. Males are more distinctive (photo to be posted later).

Seven races are recognized. E. l. crassirostris ranges from Costa Rica to
Venezuela. It is part of a distinctive northern group which lacks white
tail spots.
