Greetings Alaska Birders,
With all of the attention that the Ted Steven's International Airport Owls are getting these days I felt that it would be prudent to make a comment about the Clithroe Center. The Clithero Center is owned and operated by the Salvation Army. The purpose of the center is to offer professional counseling and treatment to adults who suffer from chronic substance abuse. It is common knowledge in the Anchorage Birding Community that the staff and professionals are highly sensitive to the protection of their property and their clients safety and well being. They are particularly sensitive to people entering the property and blocking the entrance to their facility. Considering the demanding nature of their task it would only be fair to let out-of-town birders know about the mission of the operation and ask that birders not violate the property and be on their very best behavior while close to the facility.
The accelerated visitation to this normally quite location is bound to make the staff take notice and be a bit on edge over all of the recent attention in the neighborhood of the facility.
Thanks for your understanding,
Ed Clark
