Species: A single, alternate plumaged, Black-headed Gull (Larus ridibundus)
Location: The single bird was discovered preening and feeding on Antone Lake on the south side of Shemya Island.

History: After 11 days of searching diligently for this species in selected locations we were rewarded with the sighting of this full alternate plumaged bird.

"Rare migrant in the western and central Aleutian Islands the Bering sea Islands (Pribilof and St. Lawrence Island) the Bering sea coast (Nome), Bristol Bay, Chukchi Sea coast( Kukpowruk River Mouth) and casual in Southcoastal Alaska (Cordova, Seward, Homer, Kenai)." Special Considerations: A Special site permit is required to visit Shemya Island. This permit is rarely granted and is only for mission critical work on the island sanctioned by the Air Force.
