RUSTY BLACKBIRD
BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD
Saturday Feb. 21
A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen again at 1542 Hovey Rd. Also there an adult BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD.
Highlights from the VNHS birding walk to Esquimalt Lagoon were: 1 TURKEY VULTURE and 3 RED-TROATED LOONS. 17 birders saw atotal of 57 species.
A RED-THROATED LOON was seen from the ferry at the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal another one near Active Pass.
Thurs. Feb. 19
A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen near 1542 Hovey Rd.
RBA Out of Town continues for a NORTHERN HAWK OWL seen south of Nanaimo in the vicinity of 1819 Morden Rd, birders are welcome. The bird has been seen almost every day since Jan 24.
Wednesday Feb. 18
1 SNOW BUNTING by the pumping station at Clover Point. Also there 7 Brant Geese.
12 RED-THROATED LOONS at Esquimalt Lagoon.
1 CALIFORNIA GULL at Wittys Lagoon.
Tuesday Feb. 17
One RUSTY BLACKBIRD seen at 1542 Hovey Rd.
One AMERICAN KESTREL seen at the Victoria Airport.
50 BRANT GEESE seen at Islandview Beach.
4 NORTHERN SHRIKES, 2 at Martindale, 1 at the hospital, 1 at the Bulb Fields.
Monday Feb. 16.
A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen near 1532 Hovey Rd. west of Centenial Park in Saanichton. Also there an adult BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD.
An AMERICAN KESTREL near the Bay St. bridge in Victoria.
A TURKEY VULTURE over Royal Roads in Colwood.
Sunday Feb. 15.
One female WESTERN BLUEBIRD was seen behind Sir James Douglas School off Moss St.
A SNOW BUNTING was seen at Clover Point near the pumping station.
Saturday Feb. 14.
Highlights of the VNHS Birding walk around Viaduct Flats were: a VIRGINIA RAIL at Viaduct Flats and a MERLIN at Quicks Bottom.
There were 2 male NORTHERN HARRIERS at the Vantrieght Bulb Fields off Central Saanich Rd.
RBA Out of Town continues for a NORTHERN HAWK OWL seen south of Nanaimo in the vicinity of 1819 Morden Rd, birders are welcome. The bird has been seen every day since Jan 24.
Friday Feb. 13.
An adult YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen 1km off Ross Bay by a kayaker.
A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen at Coles Bay Park in the parking lot.
At Swan Lake there was a TREE SWALLOW and 2 BARN SWALLOWS.
One WESTERN BLUEBIRD was seen behind Sir James Douglas School off Moss St.
Thursday Feb. 12.
RBA, the two female WESTERN BLUEBIRDS were seen again in the park behind Sir James Douglas Elementary School on Moss St.
A BARN SWALLOW was seen over Swan Lake.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Blenkinsop Lake.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen off Brighton Ave near Redfern.

Monday Feb. 9.
RBA, the two female WESTERN BLUEBIRDS were seen again in the park behind Sir James Douglas Elementary School on Moss St.
5 PINE GROSBEAKS were seen on Jocelyn Hill.
2 HUTTONS VIREOS were seen at the start of the trail to Jocelyn Hill off Millstream Rd near Emma Dixon Rd
A HUTTONS VIREO was seen on the Colquitz River Trail south of Mann Ave.
An AMERICAN KESTREL was see at the Pat Bay end of the Victoria Airport.
A TURKEY VULTURE was seen over Royal Roads also there a group of GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESSE.

Sunday Feb. 8.
Highlights from the VNHS Valentines Count were, 18 birders saw a total of 116 species, this is from 6:00am till 12:00pm. 2 WESTERN BLUEBIRDS in the park behind Sir James Douglas Elementary School on Moss St. , 6 TURKEY VULTURES.

Sat. Feb. 7.
Highlights of the VNHS birding walk around Elk and Beaver Lake were: 2 BAND-TAILED PIGEONS over Beaver Lake, 42 CANVASBACKS, 1 RUDDY DUCK and 17 PIED-BILLED GREBES at NW end of Elk Lake. 20 birders saw a total of 45 species.
A TREE SWALLOW and two BARN SWALLOWS were seen at Swan Lake.

Friday Feb. 6.
The first TREE SWALLOW of the year was seen at Swan Lake, also there an American Kestrel.
A SNOW BUNTING was seen again at Clover Point near the pumping station.
Thursday Feb. 5.
The WESTERN BLUEBIRDS were seen again behind Sir James Douglas Elementary School on Moss St.
A COMMON TEAL was seen in the Southwest corner of Panama Flats.

A RED KNOT was seen at the east end of McNeil Bay.
