Welcome to the Birding Hotline for Interior Alaska as of December
January 9, 2011. Few bird sightings have come in with the recent cold
temperatures. The following birds have been reported.
A SLATE-COLORED JUNCO has been coming into a feeder on Chena
Ridge.
A GREAT GRAY OWL was seen at the top of Summit Drive off of
Farmer's Loop on January 7.
A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH continues to visit a feeder at 3.8
miles Chena Hotsprings Road.
Upcoming events include:
A presentation entitled: Autumn Bird Migration on Middleton
Island will take place January 9 at 7:00 PM at the Noel Wien Library.
Middleton Island, located 130 km south of Cordova in the Gulf of
Alaska is a represents a unique location to observe fall migration
across the Gulf of Alaska. Luke DeCicco will present his findings
from the work in fall 2011 as well as an overview of the phenomenal
bird migration on this island.
