Subject: [canberrabirds] Purple Crowned Fairy Wren lecture at the ANU

Hi all,
Just thought I'd share this with you for those interested

Time/Place: Monday the 13th of february at 4pm

Who: Anja Skroblin, PhD candidate, Research School of Biology

Where: Gould Seminar Room (room 235) Gould Building, 116 Daley Road ANU

Topic: The Conservation of the Purple Crowned fairy Wren

Blurb: The purple crowned fairy wren, Malurus Coronatus, is a declining passerine that is restricted to the dense patches of vegetation that grow along the waterways in the wet-dry tropics of Northern Australia.
The species is threatened by ongoing degradation of riparian habitat caused by the grazing and trampling of introduced herbivores, intense fires and weed incursion.Although the western subspecies (Malurus Coronatus Coronatus) has been listed as endangered, conservation has been hampered by poor information regarding it's distribution and what factors influence it's fine scale occurrence.
In this seminar Anja will present work undertaken as part of her PhD that aimed to rectify these knowledge gaps and produce recommendations for management goals that could improve the conservation of M. C. Coronatus, it's riparian habitat, and other vulnerable species within their habitat.

Other info: This lecture is free and open to the public.

Cheers,
Julian
