Barred owls are definitely breeding in the District. Last summer there were adults feeding owlets on the C&O Canal (near Fletcher’s Cove), Glover-Archbold Park, and in several locations in Rock Creek Park. They are frequent visitors to the Bird House at the National Zoo and occasionally fight with a pair of captive Barred Owls in an outdoor flight cage.
