The vanguard of the Rusty Blackbird migration arrived today. Their
appearance, as usual, seems to coincide with late winter rainy weather
patterns. Two males were foraging in a mixed icterid flock on a wet field
on the west side of Guenther Road about a half mile south of Jerusalem
Road.
Also of note was a Pileated Woodpecker that flew across Liberty Road at
the bridge over Mill Creek (east of Guenther Road).
For anyone who might be interested, here is a roundup of my Rusty
Blackbird sightings in Lima and Freedom Twps during the 2009 spring
migration:

2009 was a 'bumper year' for my Rusty sightings, but it makes me marvel at
how many of these birds there really were prior to their massive
