I parked at the west end of Long Island Road, North Grand Pre and walked the main dyke towards Wolfville. Something like 25-30% of the way to Wolfville, you come to four boulders right on top of the dyke, to prevent vehicles at that point. These are the first boulders on top, from the N end. (GPS 394763 & 4996285). Just about there I flushed a (the ?) Short-eared Owl from the salt water side of the dyke. It quickly flew to 3 more locations & finally settled in an identical location on the dyke. I have a documentation photo:

The next three photos are purely to show how difficult it can be to find this bird, unless you have seen it land there. The second photo shows where it settled today. The third & fourth photos show where it settled Jan. 24th. It was there for at least 1 1/2 hours, when I brought B Forsythe back to see it. Read captions under photos if interested.
