[BIRDING-NZ] albatrosses in Wellington Harbour today

Hi all

A group of us returning from Somes Island today on the Dompost ferry (after attending a bird banding training course) saw a number of albatrosses in flight well inside the harbour and close to the city. Two flew by near the ferry allowing good identification. One was juvenile

Hi all, sorry for the delayed posting.

Sunday afternoon, between walking from Ambury Regional Park and the Mangere Sewerage works, I saw quite a large number of Royal Spoonbill (uncountable exactly with only bins at hand) on the far side of the estuary opposite the regular roosting Islands.

Hi,

I have just arrived home from counting our first winter flock here in
Wellington. They are in a small park that has been resown in Houghton Valley
approx 80 birds mostly Yellowhammers with a sprinkling of Chaffinch. Looked
for Cirl Bunting with no luck will check again in a day or so.

One was seen on a few occassions near Chanel Park by the Morrinsville Road a few months ago. Perhaps it is the same one? And there has been one at Pukemokemoke, near Gordonton.

It was banded as a large chick at Omaha Spit in Feb 1999. First bred at

This is a great record. This tern was banded on the 17/4/2010 at the Wairau Lagoons, a Month later it is was seen at Lake Grassmere, but has not been recorded since.
