[bcbirdingvanisland] Two Hudsonian Godwits

What a surprise today to see a cluster of 4 godwits feeding together and two of them being Hudsonian. What a picture. Only I was too far away for one. Where the female came from I have no idea. I did succeed in snapping a couple of pictures later.

This week we have recieved a few reports of Black-headed Grosbeaks by Morrell Wildlife Sanctuary, Rocky Point and upper Lantzville. Also a Western Tanager that was seen Thursday May 10 a the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo.

At Kaye Road, around 8:15 pm Wednesday evening, there was a Solitary Sandpiper in the first
drainage pond on your right, after the yellow gate. It was with Least Sandpiper,
Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs, and 1 Short-billed Dowitcher.

Really nice to see. Nice speckles on the back. There were also several Spotted
Sandpipers present.

Hello Birders,

I went to the Little Q estuary and checked the channel and beach, but there was
no sign of the Great Egret.

However, as a "Soft" RBA: I was thrilled to find a beautiful Whimbrel in very
fresh breeding plumage. The rufous cap was very strong. The bird is somewhat

Saw it yesterday at around 6:pm. It was beautiful, breeding plumage, very active, marching in circles, presumably to stir up fish. Wow!

On the way back from viewing the Great Egret, I was astounded to note a flash of yellow in a tree just a few houses from mine.

Found the bird at around 6pm on the 26, an awsome bird! It was marching in circles, presumably to disturb the fish. The bird is smaller than the great blue, so the metabolic rate is higher.

GREAT EGRET has been ssen at the Little Qualicum River Estuary at the end of Kinkad raod in Qualicum Beach.It was first sighted at noon on April 26 and then again at 4:30pm along with a GREATER YELLOWLEGS.

Could it be what they call, a fallout? Thats where weather brings loads of the birds down from their migration. Rain and showers can discourage birds from migrating, stopping them in their tracks. John Purves and I were at the Morningstar Ponds this morning,and we saw a male and female Cinnamon Teal. The ponds are on the Morningstar Golf Course,in French Creek.John first spotted them on Thursday.Also,
