yesterday.

We left Boise yesterday morning at "oh my god it's early" 4 am for a City
of Rocks Big Day road trip.

We experienced the usual Memorial Day bluster/frost/rain/snow/sleet......
When we drove down
through Oakley there was frost on the ground beneath the irrigation
sprinklers. Thank God for the Bent

[IBLE] Ponderosa SP Barred Owl update & Adams Co. White-headed Woodpecker

We saw the Barred Owl pair in the Ponderosa SP campground loop at dusk this
evening. Female popped out of presumed nest tree, male was nearby, and they
engaged in some duet calling. Seem to be fairly tame and undisturbed by our
presence. Only a few campers but expect more over the weekend

[IBLE] Yellow throated vireo

We saw the vireo about 10 minutes ago. It was near the main shelter belt parking area, about 75 yards down the trail. It was the only vireo we heard and it was staying close to a Wilson's warbler.

There's a discussion of a possible SB Dowitcher in the Malhuer area
taking place on the Frontiers of ID listerv right now and it looks to me
like it could be your bird. The photos include Black-necked Stilt and

[IBLE] Long-eared owlets and Malheur

Went to Foote Park to see the Long-eared owlets and managed to get a couple of decent pictures. Also went to Malhuer this last weekend and the four of us counted 98 species, including soras, bitterns, and rails the first day. Great birding especially at the headquarters. Enjoy

Not sure if anyone has already replied directly to you but the bird in your great photo is a Western Wood-pewee. Fieldmarks I used for this ID included the extremely long primary projection (even longer than a Hammond's would show), lack of prominent eye-ring, and the cool grayish-brown coloration.

near Moscow, ID. My best guess is it is a Hammond's based on the wing

This is actually a Great Blue Heron flying to the left rather than some
kind of swan flying to the right. This is an interesting and totally
understandable mistake especially after the fact. There are a number of
bird species that can create this kind of an illusion in photographs.
