BELVIDE BIRDING

• Wednesday, November 4, 2009 - Belvide Cloudy SW 3

A male Merlin (photo) was perched in a tree at the west end between 3.05-3.15pm when it flew off to the east. The 1st winter Curlew Sandpiper remains, mainly between the Scott and Gazebo hides. A single Redshank was a new arrival also 3 Green Sandpiper and 427 Golden Plover were present. 5 adult Yellow-legged Gulls roosted this evening. The female Stonechat was on the north shore also 132 Linnet. 72 Cormorant were counted.

whith regards to the bairds sandpiper sighting i am convinced that it was a little stint the bird did not have the flat look of a bairds plus markings around the head and breast area seem to sway more to the little stint (darker around the headand breast)...best wishes and good birding!
