BELVIDE BIRDING

The 1st winter Caspian Gull (photo) reappeared today and showed well from the Gazebo hide from 5.30pm. Note the clean white head with distinct sloping forehead, creating an egg shaped look, the shaul of dark brown steaking on the hind neck also the freshly moulted grey feathers with dark anchor tips on the scapulars. The distinct pale edges to the greater coverts creating a wing bar effect.The tertial show to be dark brown with pale thumb nail tips.The legs are long and pink.The bill is longish and narrow with a weak gony angle to the bill. In flight the bird showed a distinct pale underwing.

Also present were 2 Garganey, 4 Greenshank, 7 Ringed Plover, 2 LRP, 3 Dunlin, 1 Curlew, 1 Pintail, 1 Raven, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and an imm male Peregrine.
