BELVIDE BIRDING

• Sunday, April 22, 2007 - Belvide Overcast SSW 1-2

The best day of spring so far with several new arrivals.The main highlight being a Honey Buzzard seen by Steve Roper flying high to the north east around 5pm. A male Whinchat was below the dam before being flushed by a farmer. 2 Hobby were hawking over the water this evening. A Cuckoo was calling near the Gazebo hide also a Garden Warbler was singing along the south east bay. 3 Whitethroat were new in, 1 by the Gazebo hide and 2 at the west end. 3 Lesser Whitethroat were rattling away along the boundry hedgerow and Sedge Warbler (photo) have increased to 14 singing males. 9 singing Blackcap were also noted. 2 Common Tern flew thru early morning. Waders present included single Dunlin, 2 Common Sandpiper and 2 LRP. More Swifts were seen today with at least 30 by noon.Also several House Martin amongst 50+ Sand Martin. Just 7 Goldeneye were counted at dusk. A  male Redstart near the bryant hide was a late item of news for yesterday.
