BELVIDE BIRDING

• Monday, May 14, 2007 - Belvide Early Morning Rain Then Fair N 3

There was clear evidence today of a small fall of migrants. With yesterdays heavy rain moving north overnight it left a clear slot over southern Britain. With the rain band moving back south it clearly grounded any migrants moving north. This resulted in 7 Whinchats (photo) including 4 males and 3 females. 4 were in the west marsh and 3 below the dam. This is the highest number I have ever seen in the spring. There was also a female Redstart and 3 Wheatear at the west end and also 2 Cuckoo whizzing around. The north shore held an impressive 37 Dunlin and 1 Greenshank also 4 Common Sandpiper were fresh in.
