The 2 drake Red-crested Pochard were still present at the west end also Teal have increased to 6 including 4 drakes. 14 Grey Heron was a good count including mainly juveniles probably from the nearby Gaily colony. 3 pairs of Common Tern now look to be settling down and the pair of Oystercatcher still have all 3 chicks intact.
Yesterday I went to Dunsop Bridge in Lancashire to see a recently publisised breeding pair of Eagle Owls. They have 3 well grown chicks and were breeding in a moorland valley. On arrival the 3 chicks showed very well with the female bird nearby. After a while the male was also seen. Weather you can tick these birds or not, it was an unforgetable experience. Personaly I think Eagle Owl will go on to catagory C with time, as a self supporting population evolves. I would much rather tick an Eagle Owl than any Golden/Lady Amherst's Pheasant, Ring-necked Parakeet.
