BELVIDE BIRDING

• Sunday, June 24, 2007 - Belvide Rain Calm

The pair of Oystercatchers infront of the Gazebo hide have 2 chicks. A Hobby  flew over to the north this morning and 11 Common Tern were counted. Marsh Tit have bred in the reservoir plantation with at least 1 youngster. This is the first breeding record at Belvide for many years. A pair of Garden Warbler were feeding 2 young by the Gazebo also Sedge Warbler were with fledged young in the same area. The drake Wigeon and 7 Pochard were still present and the moulting flock of Mute Swan now stands at 89.

At approximately 12:30 a "dogfight" took place over the res between a Spitfire and what I think was a Messerschmitt 109. After a few minutes both aircraft headed off to the north east.

Not quite as exciting was a Mute Swan count of 89.

At approximately 12:45 the 'dogfight' continued over Blithefield res resulting in the demise of the M109.
