BELVIDE BIRDING

• Tuesday, July 31, 2007 - Belvide Sunny Calm-NW 1

The ringing group had a productive morning catching 98 birds in total. The highlights were an immature Pied Flycatcher, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 16 Garden Warbler, 12 Blackcap, 17 Chiffchaff, 14 Reed Warbler, 7 Sedge Warbler, 1 Marsh Tit and 1 Willow Tit. The Garden Warbler total was particularly pleasing as all but one were juveniles indicating a good breeding season.

The juvenile Black-necked Grebe was still present also 429 Tufted Duck, 24 Pochard, 4 Teal, 120 Greylag Geese, 114 Mute Swan, 68 GC Grebe were counted. 2 Snipe on the north shore were the first to return also 2 Common Sandpiper and 37 Common Tern still.

The Pole Cat was again seen along the ditch west of the Bryant Hide.
