BELVIDE BIRDING

• Monday, August 6, 2007 - Belvide Cloudy WNW 2-3

There are now 2 Long-eared Owls roosting along the south east bay scrub but were very difficult to view. With the gull flock starting to build it was no great suprise to find 2 Mediterranean Gulls including a 2nd winter and juvenile. The first  Greenshank of the autumn was on the north shore also 3 Common Sandpiper were on the dam. An immature Peregrine scattered everything this afternoon and a single Raven flew over to the west. There are still 30+ Common Terns with the 2 juveniles on the far west island close to fledging. A juvenile Black-necked Grebe was at the west end this evening also several Tawny Owls were heard.
