BELVIDE BIRDING

• Saturday, August 11, 2007 - Belvide Sunny SW 1-2

A Sanderling flew thru late morning and was a new bird for the year. There were also 7 Common Sandpiper, a Greenshank and a Little ringed Plover. The juvenile Black-necked Grebe was still present and Teal have increased to 35. A drake Common Scoter was entered in the log book. Another good catch from the ringing group inluded 18 Chiffchaff, 14 Willow Warbler, 10 Blackcap, 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 6 Whitethroat, 15 Reed Warbler, 9Sedge Warbler, 4 Bullfinch and a Willow Tit. These totals include last evenings session from a total of 123 ringed. A late item of news for yesterday was a Little Egret seen around 9pm flying along the dam wall also 5 Curlew.

There was a Greenshank on the North shore from 4pm and a Kingfisher flew over the Gazebo hide mid-afternoon. A male Common Scoter was recorded in the log book.
