It all started with being picked up from Wolverhampton by Garry Bagnell from Sussex at 9pm. After a long journey north we finaly arrived at Uig ferry terminal on the isle of Skye at 7.15am. A ferry journey of 1 hour 45minutes followed before a 20minute car journey took us to the bird. On arrival the bird was huddled up on a rock trying to keep out of the driving rain that was making viewing the bird very difficult. Thankfully after half an hour the rain stopped and we were able to enjoy the bird much better. The bird was much better than I expected with an overall light chocolate brown plumage, powder blue eyering, and black spots on the tertials. The tail was a long diamond shape with white outertail feathers. The legs were a red/pink colour. This in the 2nd Mourning Dove to be recorded in Britain following a record again on North Uist in 1999 also therehas been one on the Isle of Man. Around 90 people connected with the bird on Friday which all in all was a very successful trip with Great White Egret, Ring necked Duck, 3 Golden Eagle, 1 White tailed Eagle (back on the main land) male Hen Harrier and loads of Whooper Swans all to be enjoyed.
