BELVIDE BIRDING

• Sunday, December 23, 2007 - Belvide Sunny SW 1

The reservoir was 80% frozen today concentrating the wildfowl in the small pockets of water that was left open. A 1st winter drake Scaup was a new arrival also 74 Goldeneye, 250 Teal, 94 Wigeon, 26 Pochard, 26 Shoveler 17 Great Crested Grebe and 1 Little Grebe counted. The Little Egret was seen a few times in flight this afternoon and appeared to be feeding below the dam. 6 Lesser Redpoll including a pale bird (so be careful) were along the south east bay this afternoon but there was no sign of any Mealy's this afternoon although they were reported this morning.also 15 Siskin were in the gazebo bay. The gull roost was very poor compared to last night with just a 2nd winter Yellow-legged Gull.

Just down the road at Gaily Reservoir a superb male Bearded Tit showed well today. Its very frustrating as I still need it for my Belvide list.
