BELVIDE BIRDING

• Saturday, December 29, 2007 - Belvide Cloudy WSW 4-5

The main highlight today was 3 NORDIC JACKDAWS (photo) amongst a flock of 100 Jackdaw below the dam wall this afternoon. Nordic Jackdaws are the north eastern European race, they look almost identical except for a distinctive pale semi collar. There have only been a few claims of this race in Staffordshire but I'm sure there are many more to be found out there.

The gull roost held 3 Yellow-legged Gulls including 2 adults and a 2nd winter. The pair of Stonechat were at the west end. 98 Gadwall, 392 Teal and 40 Shoveler were counted.

Nice find Steve, I am pretty sure that now you have highlighted the fact that it pays to really look at everything I am sure a few more will come to light. I did have a cursury glance at a field close to Blithfield today with that very thing in mind. Guess what, no Jackdaws.............
