BELVIDE BIRDING

• Thursday, February 14, 2008 - Belvide Overcast E 2

Another excellent gull roost this evening. A 3rd winter Iceland Gull(record shot) roosted at 4.50pm and was the bird aged as a 2nd winter last night. Because it came in much earlier today it was clearer to see this bird was extensively greyer on the mantle and wings with a dull greeny/yellow bill with a dark sub-terminal mark on the bill. The juvenile bird came in at 5.20pm, but there was no sign of the Glaucous Gull although I feel it probably did roost as there were still hundreds of gulls dropping in the gloom as we left. The 1st winter Caspian Gull roosted again from 4.15pm also 4 Yellow-legged Gulls including 2 adults and 2 2nd winters. The 1st winter drake Scaup was still present also a pair of Pintail were new arrivals. 2 Oystercatcher and 2 Stonechat were also seen.
