BELVIDE BIRDING

• Monday, April 14, 2008 - Belvide Fair N 3

At around 7pm Kevin Clements found 2 AVOCET. They flew around for some time before settling down at the west end. Later on they were seen at dusk swimming in the south east bay from the Scott hide. This is only the 6th record for Belvide and the first since a single bird on May 19th 1996.Belvide's earliest ever Hobby performed superbly infront of the Bryant hide this afternoon between 4-4.45pm. A Redstart was seen briefly near the bryant hide this morning and a single Little-ringed Plover was a new arrival on the north shore. Also a Whitethroat was seen at the west end.The Barn Owl was hunting along the west lane from 6.30pm also a dead Barn Owl was found on the A5 next to the reserve. Photo of the Hobby by Haydn Brown.
