BELVIDE BIRDING

• Friday, July 25, 2008 - Belvide Cloudy SE 3

A Redstart was along the hedge just past the new hide. 6 LRP, 6 Common Sandpiper and 2 Oystercatcher were the only waders present. 6 Grey Wagtail were on the spill weir. 9 Pochard and 139 Mute Swan were counted. The first 2 Essex Skippers (photo) of the year were amongst several Small and Large Skippers on the footpath just before the west lane. Essex Skippers have only recently colonised Belvide, this is the 3rd year they've been noted. The black underside to the antenna is the safest way to identify them.

A notice to permit holders. There is a Mute Swan ringing session planned tomorrow afternoon from around 3.30pm. So there might be a bit of disturbance.
