BELVIDE BIRDING

• Saturday, August 30, 2008 - Belvide Overcast SE 2

With the wind in the south east it was no surprise to see 11 Black Tern including 3 juvs, which was part of a noticeable influx of birds around the country today. 2 Sandwich Tern were present for a short while around 9am also 26 Common Tern flew thru. The 2 juvenile Black-necked Grebe were still present, 2 Wigeon were the first of the autumn also 2 Shelduck were new. A skywatch off the dam between 0815-0930 produced the first Tree Pipit of the year also 4 Meadow Pipit were the first of the autumn. There was little else other than 4 Grey Wagtail and a trickle of Swallows. A single Ruff was present briefly this evening also 6 Ringed Plover and 6 Common Sandpiper were  present. A single Yellow Wagtail was on the north shore and 6 possible Crossbill were seen this morning. The Coot flock has increased to 1184.

The ringing groups morning session caught 6 Reed Warbler, 1 Sedge Warbler, 13 Chiffchaff, 5 Willow Warbler.
