BELVIDE BIRDING

• Thursday, October 2, 2008 - Belvide

This evening, a second-winter Yellow-legged Gull was present, but did not stay to roost. At the west end, there were a Ruff, two Dunlin, one Golden Plover and two Shelduck.

Other sightings included 20+ Buzzard, eight Jay, six Chiffchaff and a Raven.

Entries in the logbook for the last two days included two Shelduck, a Dunlin and the Pink-footed Goose with the Greylags.

That's it for updates till Steve returns from Shetland next Tuesday. That is unless you have some sightings and post a comment. Cheers.

In addition to the sightings this evening there seems to have been an influx of Blackbirds and Robins at the res. I counted twenty-plus Blackbirds near the gazebo and plenty of Robins between the Scott hide and the west end. Still quite a few Goldcrests about.

Heavy rain made viewing difficult this morning. A single Golden Plover was in the 400+ Lapwing flock and 6 Snipe were present on the north shore. A Water Pipit showed well for 15 minutes in front of West End Hide. 10 Skylark flew south east and like wise a single Swallow. The car park scrub held Treecreeper, Chiffchaff and Goldcrest. Teal, Shoveler, Gadwall, and Tufted Duck numbers have increased. 2 Shelduck were also present.
