BELVIDE BIRDING

• Saturday, January 24, 2009 - Belvide Sunny WSW 2

A Mediterranean Gull was in the roost this evening and looked like a 2nd winter moulting into an adult with just a tiny amount of black in the primaries. Other than that the gull roost was poor with only 450 large gull roosting. 2 Goosander flew over at dusk and Pochard have increased to 49. A Little Owl was again in an Ash tree opposite the barn conversions 200yards east of the car park at dusk.

The work party was well attended by 10 people this morning. Blackthorn scrub has been cleared from the car park to make way for extra car parking spaces. This is much needed as the growing popularity of Belvide in the last year as seen the car park over flowing on several occasions.
