Mockingbirds

I really like Mockingbirds!  They are our state bird in Texas, so we learn what they are when we are kids at school.  They will mimic other birds in the area.  I heard one mimicking a Red Tailed Hawk yesterday, probably just to see what kind of response the other birds would have.  From what I understand, they mimic other birds and even cell phones to make their call more interesting for the females.  The male with the more complex call gets the girl!  Which brings me to why I like them so much.  They practice their calls quietly before they bring tem to the stage, so they are humming to themselves.  I had a parrot when I was a kid who would do that when he was getting ready to go to sleep.  He would be mumbling and humming to himself in a sweet manner before he brought it out in all his glory!

Don't let that musical talent fool you though.  They can really be pests.  They will be bullies at times where they will find a special place and chase everybody off to protect his territory.  But despite this attitude porblem at times, I like him, which is good because they are all over the place here.
