Birding Kit

I have been thinking that I would like to have a prepacked case that is made to hold specific items for a quick trip for birding that I could prepack and be off in a hurry.  It would have slots for my camera and lenses and battery chargers.  Also a slot for my Sibleys or other field guide, and a place to put my laptop and charger as well as a change of clothes in case I get rained on.  On top of that I want to be able to carry this on to a flight if I am travelling so that I don't lose sight of my valuables.  I think that a foam insert with cutouts for the equipment would be great too.

Has anybody seen something like that?  Please comment if you have any ideas about this subject.  I would love to hear what others do to be prepared in advance, or at least not forget to bring all that is needed to make a quick trip or extend a day trip to an overnight trip.

Hi Dave

you absolutely have to be fully charged at all times to rush out the door when needed - spare charged batteries. haven't thought about a laptop but a small netbook would be useful to download and post photos when travelling and they're small enough to fit in a carry along with camera

Birding supplies for quick birding ....

I am a sales and service representative that travels about, and I get to go through many birdy areas, or close enough to make a detour. I always have my binoculars with neck strap, book titiled "finding birds on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail", backpack with jeans, t-shirt, ballcap and tennis shoes with socks, mosquitoe repellant (Cutter Skinsations pump), & benadryl 2% itch cream, National Audubon Socirty field guide (actual color photograghs of birds) & a neat little bird call whistle I carry around my neck to draw them in during a quiet time. Many times I have had the opportunity to get some birding in at great locations I didn't even know about because of the birding hotspots in the book or others that I have heard about from the Houston Audubon newsletter, GCBO newsletter, or other books and articles. Has anyone been to the freshwater water sanctuary off of Lockwood Rd, just a half a mile south of Beltway 8 North for example? Check it out, you'll love it!
