Editting photos

I am on several birding forums and have discussed editting my photos with some of the more serious birders/ photographers.  They are in it for that shot.  You know the one.  Yeah, the one on the cover of the magazine, or in a calendar.  Well, I think differently, and it is catching up to me.  My pictures, and my blogging for that matter are like my vacation pictures.  You don't just take one picture of somebody at the beach or a reunion or anything else memorable and say that you are done.  You want to remember the trip or the party or the get together and shoot several pictures of the happening!

Well, I take LOTS of pictures when I go out.  Maybe as many as 1000 pictures in a day if there are a lot of birds, especially interesting birds.  I actually had 17,000 pictures that I had not filed since the first of the year that I have been going through for the past couple of weeks.

The point of this is that I take lots of pictures so that I can remember my days out birding, kind of like my vacation pictures.  They may not be the best pictures I have taken but I can sit in front of the computer and set the pictures up in a slide show and enjoy the day all over again, looking at the hundreds of pictures instead of the 10 good ones for the day.

Please post on the comments section what you do with your pictures.  Do you mercilessly delete all the not so perfect shots? Or do you keep them all to remember the good times?

I take lots of pics too but I have to delete most of them and I try to just keep the best - don't want to be a pack rat hoarding everything - but agree I photo mostly for posterity or ID use in the future not to get them published

Keeping Photos

Family photos...keep'em all except the most blurred.

Bird photos & such...Really depends on the situation but I keep some and delete most. My last batch I decided to be brutal on keeping and deleting.
