My Colorado Trip Day 4 Part AI woke up and went out to my new favorite spot for birding at 8 am. My friend Mike was going out too and he decidded to go with me to see what we could see. We play golf together and has learned a lot about birds since I have been educating him on the birds that we see while I play. We get to the location that I was returning to, a berry patch that the birds have been going to, and what comes walking out so non-chalantly but this Dusky Grouse! It just looks at me and walks down the path in front of me:
Just as it gets out of my sight, a see a movement to my left. Another lifer! Here is a Black-headed Grosbeak. It stayed around for just a second, then flew out of sight.
I looked back over to where the Hermit Thrush was the day before and I saw a pair of them stirring deep in the brush, so I sat and waited for them to come out to the berries. Just when they started to come out our friend the Grouse came back and scared them off, so i got another picture of it as they flew off:
After the grouse left it got quiet. I didn't expect Mike to just sit there and wait, so we continued down the path until we saw this Olive-sided Flycatcher:
Further down the trail, another lifer a Green-tailed Towhee. I never got a money shot on this bird but got pics of all of the identifying marks on different pictures, but who wants to look at a picture of the butt of a bird? :
Further down the path I came across a House Wren and got a decent shot of it. This is turning out to be a fantastic walk, even though there is the issue of oxygen deprivation. w We got to the bottom of the trail and came across this Red-naped Sapsucker.
