15th-17th Aug.
With a quiet spell during the 2nd week of August (only highlight was a Red Kite that flew over.... 3rd one I've missed this year!!), I decided to have a break from patching for few days. My 1st day back was lunchtime on the 15th with the only real birds of note being 2 Greenshank & 2 Common Sandpiper.
The next day, also lunchtime, just 1 Greenshank remained and was joined by a very smart summer pl. Black-tailed Godwit. A distant Peregrine was the only other bird of note.
But today, the 17thm things went a little more exciting! I recieved a text from Andy Latham around 16:30hrs saying he'd found a Tree Pipit!!! A 1st for VP!!! I was unable to go, as I had my daughter with me & couldn't leave until my wife came home from work. To cut a... well rather boring few hours where I aged 10 years, story short, I arrived at the western most point of the top field around 18:30hrs. A few of the VP 'hard core' were gathered, and now it had been revealed that there were actually 2 Tree Pipits present. A quick wait and both birds were perched together on the overhead cables. Excellent!!! Another patch tick & my 123rd species for the year at VP! I hope this keeps up now? |
