Alvecote Pools SSSI

Despite the sunshine and the long, warm days this time of the year gets me down for two main reasons - hayfever and a serious lack of birds...... hold on a minute though what the hell am I moaning on about, there's always beautiful stuff like this to stare at......... whilst sneezing....

A Great Crested Grebe becomes an unfortunate victim of one of my hayfever related sneezing incidents... only kidding it's just weed... not that kind of weed... you know pond weed that's all.

Mill Pool, Alvecote Pools SSSI, Warwickshire - June 2009

On Mill Pool this evening there were 18 Gadwall with an increasing number of moulting Mallard as well as 3 male Common Teal and 14 Tufted Ducks.  A Common Tern was fishing and a Hobby was also spotted hunting dragonflies.  Like last year there are also good numbers of Grass Snakes around the reserve this summer with a number showing well around the Laundry Cottage ruins near the Old Orchard.

About Me

Aye up folks! My name is Adam 'Archie' Archer, a birder from the West Midlands of England where the birds maybe slightly sh*te but the birders are among the best in the World. This is simply a blog about my birding experiences from my beloved Isles of Great Britain. I have been fortunate to see many great birding spectacles from Unst at the highest tip of Shetland to pelagic trips off the coast of the Isles of Scilly. I have also included sightings from around my home in North Warwickshire and my local patch Alvecote Pools a Site of Special Scientific Interest that straddles the Warwickshire & Staffordshire borders. Birding is a great hobby.... so please relax, smile & enjoy it. WARNING: SOME CONTENT MAY OFFEND! PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY COMMENTS LEFT ON THIS BLOG ARE NOT NECESSARILY THE VIEWS OF MY GOODSELF.... SO THERE!
