SANDHILL CRANE remains.... thank God!

After suffering throughout the night I awoke this morning with full blown 'man flu' or 'boy sniffles' as my missus calls it.  It is something you just don't need during autumn migration season, especially when there are good birds to be seen scattered at extreme ends of the British Isles.  My depression was soothed however when news filtered through that the SANDHILL CRANE was still present on South Ronaldsay.  The bird just needs to remain for another 48 hours and it will be ours!  I slipped off back to sleep stinking of Vicks and dreaming about sexy, elegant, long-legged birds..... Cranes of course.

For Jase Atkinson's account of his visit to Orkney a few days ago, please click here.... A Tale of 2 Halves . He managed to grab a few great photographs of the bird.

Hope you don't mind me askin' but do you know if Julian's managed to get over there?

Good luck with the bird yourself, hope it hangs on in there (I reckon it's the stress given you the flu!)
Keep up the blog, it's a great read

Arch Responds: No bother at all Nat. No, unfortunately I couldn't persuade them to make the quick dash over from Shetland, a combination of the cost and the thought of them missing something good on Zetlandica I think! If it lingers long enough I'm sure they will crack and head up there next weekend.

Thanks for your kind words, keep up the great job on yours too. WEST MIDLANDS BLOGGERS UNITE! :o)

About Me

WARNING: PARENTAL GUIDANCE IS ADVISED. CERTIFICATE 18. Thanks for dropping by... I go by the name of Adam 'Archie' Archer, a birder from the West Midlands of England & Chief Executive of ASBO (Association of Satirical Birders & Ornithologists). This is simply a blog relaying my tales from around the wonderful Isles of Great Britain (& sometimes beyond). I have been fortunate to witness many great birding spectacles from Unst at the highest tip of Shetland in the far north to pelagic trips off the coast of the Isles of Scilly in the extreme south west. I also also include sightings from around my home in north Warwickshire and my local patch, Alvecote Pools a SSSI that straddles the Warwickshire & Staffordshire borders. Birding is a great hobby so please relax, smile & enjoy it.... & for goodness sake don't take it all so seriously! PLEASE NOTE THAT VIEWS EXPRESSED IN THE COMMENTS ARE NOT NECESSARILY SHARED.
