Real Azores - The Birding Rarity Champions of Europe

With Isles of Scilly United and Shetland Rangers biting at the heels of 'new kids on the block', Orkney Albion for the British Birding Rarity Premiership title, the reigning European Champions - Real Azores have already made a strong start to the Autumn season..... of should I say 'Fall' based on the amount of Nearctic gems it attracts from across the Atlantic Ocean?

The first biggie of the season was recorded on the 26th September when a stunning female AMERICAN REDSTART was found on the island of Corvo.  The day before another 'American Beauty' cropped up when a BOBOLINK was located on the very same island.

If you would like to keep a beady eye on what going down down there on the Azores then please check out the excellent blog.... BIRDING CORVO 2009  It's written by a lucky Norweigen chap called Olaf Jonsson who will be spending the next two months on Corvo in an attempt to add vast numbers of new Yank species to his Western Palearctic List.

Wednesday 30 September 2009 - First Biggy

Was the first biggy of the season the Blackburnian Warbler on St.Kilda?

Arch Responds: Good call Vath, how could I forget about that!? Mind you didn't I say that the season runs from the 20/09/2009 to the 20/10/2009? Maybe Western Isles Wanderers kicked off before the whistle was blown? I may need to extend the season a bit.

About Me

Aye up folks! My name is Adam 'Archie' Archer, a birder from the West Midlands of England where the birds maybe slightly sh*te but the birders are among the best in the World. This is simply a blog about my birding experiences from my beloved Isles of Great Britain. I have been fortunate to see many great birding spectacles from Unst at the highest tip of Shetland to pelagic trips off the coast of the Isles of Scilly. I have also included sightings from around my home in North Warwickshire and my local patch Alvecote Pools a Site of Special Scientific Interest that straddles the Warwickshire & Staffordshire borders. Birding is a great hobby.... so please relax, smile & enjoy it. WARNING: SOME CONTENT MAY OFFEND! PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY COMMENTS LEFT ON THIS BLOG ARE NOT NECESSARILY THE VIEWS OF MY GOODSELF.... SO THERE!
