First a quick visit to the gravel pits before Pontarlier - plentyof Coots and Pochards, a fair few Tufted Ducks, a handful of Great Crested Grebe and 3 Goldeneye.
Despite many reservations, Zippy the Renault 5 did manage to get to the top of the highest point in Franche-comté. Skylark was singing as we got there, and 2 Raven passed overhead, 3 Black Redstarts were on the cliffs and there was a strong passage of House Martins going along the cliff. A small group of Crag Martins were lower down. A Kestrel was also present. Due to the hangover, birding was stopped in favour of a nap, from which point there was clearly a bit of migration happening, small groups of Linnet and Chaffinch were passing over, 2 Siskin went through, a group of 5 Hawfinches 2 Jays, a White Wagtail and 2 Meadow Pipits. A Wheatear was on the top of the cliffs. Stopping for a much needed coffee at the restaurant on the way back down, there were a good few Mistle Thrushes, a Willow Tit and a Nutcracker or two.
Stopped for a few minutes between Lac St Point and Lac de Remoray to see if there was anything about. A good few Coots, a pair of Mute Swans, a Chiffchaff and a Buzzard was all that was seen. |
