Saturday, December 30, 2006 - Last trip of the year

The photo below was supposed to be of a Great Grey Owl.

So we didn't see a Great Grey Owl (which was seen in Hanko just yesterday, and had been there for a while already), we had to settle for this Tawny Owl instead. Which is all very nice because you rarely get to see them. And I even managed to get a picture, which nearly compensates for the last time i missed a Great Grey, namely the trip to Hanko a few weeks back. I'll get it next year, I hope.

Well it was actually a pretty nice trip. We saw (in addition to the owl) a Nuthatch, Smews (3) and a Scaup in Tammisaari and wintering Starlings, Wood Pigeons (flock of 13), Bramblings and Chaffinches in Hanko. Also good numbers of Whooper Swans for end of December.

That's it for year 2006, a fresh start on monday...
Happy New Year!
