Bad Finnish Birdwatcher

Friday, January 12, 2007 - Got snow?

The ongoing winter has been record-breaking warm. Records broken were at least the months (December) mean temperature in southern Finland and the all-time warmest day-temperature for December. The point is - it's been bloody warm!
Well, finally yesterday it dropped below freezing and we got a little snow here on the south coast. Forecasts aren't very promising though... I'm a fan of a REAL finnish winter, and I'm waiting eagerly for the sea to freeze.

Anyway, I have photographic proof, that there is snow on the ground. By the way: the lump in the middle of the top of the pine is the same Hawk Owl as in the photo on the first day of the year. Trust me.

On my way home I felt a sudden urge to see Herring Gulls. This one was a real poser. Gorgeous creature!

Hey Timo. I followed your link from your comment on my site. I like your new blog quite a bit. Your photos are particularly outstanding. I hope that when you're ready, you'll participate in I and the Bird. An international community of birdwatchers would be very interested in what bad Finnish birdwatchers are up to.
